Question
Doc

Hope this finds you well. i had a surgery to correct a disc prolapse according to mri results.

i had the surgery on the 8th of April 2013 and i rested for about 3 ,months full of physiotherapy.

a year after, i thought i could go back to playing football or excising. this has not been possible. i still feel pain in the area and i still feel some pain when i wake up from bed. when i try to run i feel pain in the back. i also sometimes feel pain radiating through my left leg, which was the case before but not same extent of pain

Will i ever return to "normal" ?

or do i have to leave with it.

Please help me. Thank you and God Bless you.

Answer
Hi, Hope,

No surgery for a prolapsed disc takes care of the underlying cause:  tight back muscles.

See the entry on discs on this page:  http://somatics.com/back_pain_terms.htm
and the entry on back trouble on this page:  http://somatics.com/wordpress/chronic-back-pain/

You don't have to learn to live with it, only to do what is necessary to resolve that condition.  The article explains.

For radiating pain, please see this entry:
