Question
For the past two years I have had severe back pain. I wake up with stiffness that usualy goes away after a while. However, at work I stand most of the day and by four hours in I have to lean up against something because my mid back hurts too much. Ibuprofen and yoga help some but not much.  I also have electric like shocks in the tops of my feet.

Answer
Hi Dylan,

Typically, this would indicate inflammation with morning stiffness that gradually subsides. It is possible it could be arthritis related, but there could be many factors involved, including postural related musculoskeletal problems from standing for long periods. I would certainly get this evaluated by a health care professional who can evaluate this properly and make any recommendations for work modification. A Chiropractor might be a good place to start. In the meantime, you are probably familiar with this, but it is always a good idea to review some tips for standing posture http://www.necksolutions.com/standing-posture/

All the best,

Dr. Steve
