Question
Dear Sir,
My Father, age 53. He is farmer. 6 years before he had one major surgery in mind. Then he had been continuos treatment and he ate Tablet Encorate and Live-50. Now he has no problem regarding that. For past 6 years he is not doing any job. Now he has pain and swelling in all joints. Some times he cant bend his knees, even the fingers. We consult the family Doctor, He said this is Rheumatic attack, so He want to take continuos tablets like"Zeroed" and some vitamin tablets. But the pain is not reduced then we go to another specialist, he suggest tablets like "Zerodol", "Sandoz", "Omnacortil", Neotrexate", Folygel". And the Doctor Suggest one specialist who is in my local area. After one weak we go to that doctor, He said stop all tablets and take physiotherapy treatment. But my father cant tolerate pain without tablets. So we go back my family doctor. Now he suggested tablets "Zerodol", and "Sandoz" and also he said don't take "Zerodol" continuously, it may give side effects. But my father feel the pain is not control without "Zerodol".

Now What can we do?
Our Treatment and Tablets are Correct?
Please Advise Me.
Thank You!

Answer
Shankar,

The best thing you can do is work with your doctor on developing the right dosing of the medications. If the specialist you saw was not a Rheumatologist then ask for a referral.

Rheumatoid Arthritis is not treated with physical therapy. You were right to leave the specialist that said that. I am not in a position to talk about dosing of drugs. There is no reason that a good Rheumatologist can not work out a treatment protocol that will keep your father from experiencing to much pain.
