Question
Hi Sharon:  Thank you for answering my prior question. Right now I'm 8 weeks post-surgery and am wondering if I'm overdoing it - I have pain in my incision site - I am going up and down my 3-story home a number of times per day and am wondering if that is too much.  I am also using a recumbent bike and walking about 20-30 minutes per day. I've also started to do laundry and household tasks. Is it possible that I'm doing more than I should be doing?  Could that be the reason for the pain, and if so, I guess I should cut back for a bit.  Thank you in advance.  Mary

Answer
Hello Mary

From what my experience has been, it can take between three and six months to heal completely, so in essence you are really in the early stages of healing.

I don't see any problem with the stairs, just be very careful because your balance may not be completely back to normal yet.  I also don't see the problem with the bike or walking, although a half hour seems a lot to me, but if you are not in pain or limping, it may be fine.  Just check with your doctor.

The laundry concerns me though.  Do you have to bend to get the clothes from the washer to the dryer?  If you do bend, I would suggest being very careful and perhaps use a grabber that came with your hip kit to grab the clothes.  In fact, I still use a grabber at times so I don't have to do all that bending.

I still believe the pain is muscular in nature, but you might want to give your doctor a call just to be on the safe side and to ease your concerns.

Best of luck to you, it sounds like you are doing great.

Sharon
