Question
QUESTION: I got a THR due to AVN a year ago. My X-RAY, Bone scan etc are normal. There is no loosening, no infection and X ray looks normal. I still have thigh pain . Is there a treatment. No doctor has been able to diagnose the problem

ANSWER: Hi Subhash

If your doctor cannot see a problem on the X-ray, I would tend to believe it's muscle pain.  When a THR is put in, many long muscles are cut to make room for the prosthesis and that cutting takes time to heal.

QUESTION: Hi Sharon,
Thanks for prompt reply. It's a year now and normally how much time it should take to heal properly?
Another dimension to this is that my operated leg is about1/4 inches longer and I have tried raiser on other side of the leg as well ranging from 1/4 inches to lesser than that. It gives pain at different places like knee, leg down etc at different lengths.

ANSWER: Subhash

Everyone heals differently so the best person to talk to is your doctor.  1/4 inch of a difference is not that much.  Most people normally have a difference of 1/4 of an inche without having any trauma to the legs.

Personally I think you are still healing because your pain is not in one place.  If it were in one place, there might be more of a reason for concern.

QUESTION: Now on examination , doctors are suggesting that the pain is coming from L5/S1 from the spine based upon bone scan. MRI can't be done due to metal prothesis. But what's the treatment is not clear.

Answer
I see that I have tried to address your question twice.  Unfortunatelly since I am not a doctor, I really don't have any other suggestions for you, other than to see if your legs are the same length.  If one leg is shorter than the other, your gait will be uneven and cause you pain.
