Question
I am a 50 year old female in good physical condition. THR was performed about 8 weeks ago without incident. Last weekend we attended a wedding and I had two fast dances with my husband and did not have any pain during.  Now I feel like there is something wrong.  Have a little pain at incision site and a burning deep joint ache in the buttocks.  Could I have damaged or loosened the implant?

Eight weeks out of a THR, even in a perfect surgery is not a long time.  I'm glad that you have healed so well but you may have pushed the envelope a bit with the dancing.

My gut reaction is that you pulled a muscle, or damaged the soft tissue.  I do not get the feeling that you did damage to the prosthesis.  That being said, you should go to your orthopedist and have him check you out.  A diagnosis, from anyone over the internet is not nearly as effective as it would be to see your doctor.

My fear in pushing the healing process is that you are more open to dislocations in the early months of healing.  It can take some people up to a year to heal completely.  I am not implying that this is the case with you, but remember that a THR, although elective is major surgery that involves large muscle groups and it takes a long time to heal.

Go see your orthopedist.  I have a feeling you did not do damage to the prosthesis, but you should get an X-ray to ease your mind.

Slow up a little bit with your exercise and movements.  Your main goal right now is to heal strongly and slowly.  You'll get there!
