Question
In 2005, I broke both ankles and my right tibia. I now have 15 screws and a plate on the right leg, on and above the ankle. In the last few days, I have been suffering with constant pain and swelling in both ankles. Also, the scar area on the right leg is very sensitive to the touch and red with a feverish touch. I assumed the pain was due to weather change but the scar inflammation is worrying me. Could this be due to the hardware laying beneath the scar?

Answer
Hi Patrice,

if this is something that has just started as you indicate in the last few days I would probably have it looked at to be sure there isn't something else going on.

It should not all of a sudden start to give you problems like that without some underlying reason.

It could be due to the hardware but trying to figure it out over the Internet is something I would not chance. Probably is nothing but for peace of mind have the Doctor look at it.
