Neck Contractions

Question
Over the past 4 or 5 years, I have had several neck contractions. There is never any two situations that have brought these about. When I have one, it is sudden. My neck pulls my head down almost to my left shoulder. If I try to fight it, it causes excruciating pain. These symptoms have, in the past, lasted between 20 to 30 seconds. Then I can straighten up my neck without any residual pain. Three days ago I had one that lasted almost a minute. I tried to straighten up before it finished and a pain shot upward through the center of my left ear and stopped almost at the center of the top of my head. This was the first time I had a pain like this. After the contraction subsided, I could still put my finger right on the spot in my head where the pain ran to. The spot felt just like a sharp stab that subsided to a dull throb. The throb lasted the rest of that day and into the next morning, when it just went away. If you know anything that I can take to a specialist, please tell me. I am a 53 year old Caucasian(white)male, if you need more information, please let me know.

Answer
Charles,
Have you had any recent X-Rays or MRI's of your Cervical Spine?
This is what is needed to determine the cause of your problem.  You can send them to my email and then I could let you know what the problem is.
Also send me what part of town you are in.
