Question
Hi Dr.Robert, my name's katie, i'm 15 and i recently took x-ray pictures to find that i had a 13 degree curve in my spine near the pelvis. The doctors have told me that it could worsen and result in skoleosis, posibly surgery, and i was wondering what i could do at home to keep my spine from worsening (sitting positions, exercices, etc). Any advice would be much appreciated!!

ps, i also do ballet, does that neccasarily worsen or improve spinal function?
Thank you for your time!

Answer
Katie,
There are some things you could do to help but ultimately correcting the cause of the problem is what you should do for the best results.  We see a large number of scoliosis patients and many of them are dancers.  Since it is a spinal problem, you should see a doctor of chiropractic who is a trained spine doctor.  I highly recommend an Upper Cervical Practitioner who will help you to correct the Top of your spine, which leads the rest of the spine.  This is how scoliosis actually starts, from the top.  You do not want to let it progress any further because then it may become even harder to correct and then you truly may become a candidate for surgery.
One thing to understand is that medical doctors are not trained the same way that a doctor of chiropractic is trained and therefore does not have the knowledge that is necessary for correcting the problem.  You will hear drugs and surgery from an MD because that is all that they know; treating effects.  When you want the cause corrected, you need to go to an Upper Cervical Specific Doctor of Chiropractic.
If you would like a recommendation, send me your town and state and I will reply within the next couple of days.

Nothing is bigger to you than your LIFE,
