Arm was pulled out by chiropractor

Question
Upon my 3rd visit to Dr. Benson, chiro, I was put into a small room and 'steamed' for half-an-hour.  I had no idea why.  Then, I was taken into his exam room.  I was left alone with him.  He asked me to outstretch my left arm and touch his shoulder.  He held my elbow ( I thought he was testing something.) Then he pulled gently and there was no pain.  He had a strange smile on his face.  Since then, 3 years ago, I have suffered pain in my left shoulder and now pain around lower ribs on LHS.  I never went back. What did he do please?

Answer
Dear Charlotte,

Thank you for your question.

Unfortunately, it is quite difficult for me to say what happened or what he did, as you ask, other than to echo back to you that you remember he pulled on your arm during that visit three years ago.

Whether it was appropriate or necessary to do so, how it was done and the exact mechanics of the situation or if it caused you harm is impossible to speculate in this type of format and anyone who is willing to do so is guessing, at best.  I will say, though, that such a procedure is not part of the normal delivery of non-therapeutic straight chiropractic.

I wish you the best in finding answers to your questions about this obviously distressing situation for you.

Sincerely,
James W. Healey, DC
