clicking knee

Question
I have an old knee injury. 12 years ago I fell down a clif doing a hill race. This opened up my left kneecap 2.5 cm horizontally accross. I went to Casualty and had it stiched up. I notice that it clicks when I move it through it's range of motion. The Doctor says that it is just stuff in my knee(mud on knee at time of injury, then cleaned off) and he told me to do exercises to strengthen the muscles around it. Sometimes it feels sore when it is wet outside or I have been dancing... It still clicks. Doctor said it is not cartiledge, because it is not a dull click. What should I do? Could I do Nursing? I can still walk reasonably well.

Answer
John,
I would suggest visiting a Doctor of Chiropractic that specializes in extremities.  It sounds to me like you may have not only injured your knee from the accident but also misaligned a tibia or fibula.  If that is the case then it can be reset and possibly help with your problem of the clicking and even the occasional soreness. A Doctor of Chiropractic that advertises helping sports injuries would be how you would find your Doctor.  Let me know if you need help in finding one.

Good Luck
Dr Rob Arnone
