Question
QUESTION: i had rotar cuff surgery 2 years ago. did physical therapy and excersises.  in the past year my right shoulder and arm ache, sometimes hurts so bad have to take a pain pill.  what am i doing wrong, or what can i do to help the pain??  thank you  diane
ANSWER: Dear Diane,

It is hard to say what is causing the right shoulder pain without a thorough history and examination.  However, an injury especially of the joint may develops scar tissues formation at the injured site.  It may also precipitate to osteoarthritis which means degeneration of the bones usually at the joint.  To be certain, it is best of have the right shoulder be taken an X-ray to see the structure of the joint.  If you rub hard on the shoulder region especially around the muscles that were torn and you feel a hard nodule, pain, or clicking sound, it may points to scar tissue in the area.

QUESTION: now, which type of doctor should i go to..orthopedic surgeon?  i really don't want to get surgery again, i just want to know who should i go to for the x-ray and for them to give me the results, with different types of plans to relieve the pain.  thank you again   diane

Answer
Dear Diane,

I apologize for the delay response.  Had not been able to access my email.  I would recommend seeing a chiropractor first as this may provided conservative treatment for the condition.  An orthopedic surgeon is a last option if all else fails.  It sounds like your condition can be properly managed by a chiropractor.
