Lower chest pain and center back pain

Question
I woke up this morning and I felt like I could hardly breathe. I had shooting pains going through (I guess my ribcage), right under my chest. And They were also along my upper and center back. It was constantly hurting and hurt even more every time I inhaled and exhaled. I want to go to the doctor but it's pretty far away and hoped you could help me understand possibly what it could be before I decide if I go or not. Thanks a lot!

Answer
Hi Jackie and thanks for writing,

Anytime someone complains of "chest pain" or "trouble breathing" then it is considered a medical emergency and you should call 9-1-1 and go the the ER asap. Unless you know for sure that it is a muscular injury and not cardiac, then you could try an Anti-inflammatory like Ibuprofen, rest and ice and see if it clears up in a day or so ... but I still advise 9-1-1 for any chest pain to be safe (take an Aspirin too to be on the safe side).

All my best,

Margot
