Best doctor to see?

Question
Hi Michael,

Upon rising from bed I turned my head in a very fast, excessively twisting motion and immediately the room started spinning. Now two days later I'm still dizzy and have slight nausea. I can make the room spin if I put my head in a certain position.

What is happening? Should I see a Chiropractor or another type doctor? Who can best help me?

Thank's,

Ray Johnson

Answer
Ray,

Thanks for the question.

I am going to give you two answers, the right one will depend on your age.

If you are under 40 and have no history or family history of cardiovascular disease or stroke, I would recommend the chiropractor.  Most likely you have a mechanical nerve pressure in the upper neck causing the dizziness.  Once removed by the chiropractor, you will feel fine.  You should have a thorough evaluation by your chiropractor though to rule out any complicating factors.

If you are over 40 or have any history or family history of cardiovascular disease or stroke, go see you general practitioner or a cardiovascular specialist.  There could be something more serious going on that should be ruled out prior to any mechanical treatment.

I would recommend seeing someone immediately though.  If it is the first, it will just get worse if left alone.  If it is the second, it could be serious.

I hope this helps and good luck with treatment.

God Bless,

Dr. Boss
