Question
I have been a truck driver for 17 yrs. So sitting for 10-16 hrs 6 days a week might help here in diagnosing my problem.Im employed in the construction trade seasonal,May - October only, due to the non-work in the winters here in Alaska.
In spring of 03 my left butt cheek began to hurt in the center area after sitting for 6 hrs into my work day. This continued thru the summer. In the fall my left hip began to hurt on the side around to front of me.Like when someone puts their hands on their hips, in that area. After layoff in Oct 03 it subsided and went away.
In May 04 I went back to work and the pain started again off and on thru the summer. This depended on how many hours in the day I worked. In August 04 the pain got worse and more chronic on a daily bases. After a 10 hr work day I could hardly sit,my left butt cheek hurt so bad. When getting out of the truck my hip hurt to the point I could hardly climb down out of the semi and limped when walking.
I was laidoff Oct. 10,2004 and the pain both in the butt and hip stopped after a week off work.About the 17th of that same Oct, I went in for my yearly pelvic/GYN exam. During the exam when the Dr. pressed around my abdomen I felt no pain but woke the next morning in extreme pain on my left side abdomen and let hip.I could not hardly sit or walk, had to lay on my right side for relief.I went in for ultra-sound and found ovarian cyst on the right side only.
The pain was relieved with rx/vicodine and went away after 6-7 days.
On the 27th of Oct. 2004 I woke lying on my back in the am.I went to roll over and could not move. I absolutely couldn't move without excruciating pain from my neck,shoulders,upper/mid/lower back. I immediately went to the nearest chiro and got some help. The chiro said my spine was curved,my left hip area was forward and the right side was pushed back.My disk were not spongy like they should be. We did 17 adjustments.I could turn my neck and walk but I was still in so much pain thou, I could cough and hurt.It felt like a pallet of bricks was dropped on my back.In Feb & March 05, I had 3 MRIs which showed nothing in the lower/mid back but the upper back showed 2 bulging disk in c-3&4. I was sent to a pain management doctor who gave me facet injections. At this time the pain was mostly in both hips and lower back, the left shoulder blade up thru neck.My pain was mostly when moving both my upper and lower body as in vacuuming, getting laundry out of dryer, rake leaves and I cant lay on either hip for very long so sleeping is constantly disrupted. In the a.m. I'm extremely stiff and can barely move for about an hour and meds kicked in.I was put on 50mg Ultram 1 every 4 hrs for during the day and one 10mg Hydrocodone at night.
The injections only made the pain tolerable so the doctor suggested radio frequency ablation. I did the procedure in April of 06.Unfortunatley it did not last or help but only for maybe 2 months. But the pain in right hip subsided.
I have never been diagnosed by any medical doctor. Another chiropractor said possible facets and SI joint pain. But no one has said what it is I have or how long it will last or how to get rid of it.Im just miserable and hurt so terrible sometimes I just cant bare it.
I am still on the Ultram, taking 100mg in am and 50mg every 4 hrs but not after 3pm due to it keeps me awake and I take a 10mg hydrocodone at night for sleeping.
New symptoms are waking with my arms numb and in pain.Just crossing my arms will do the same.On occasion when sitting back in recliner and feet up,my right leg & foot have gone slightly numb, or if sitting at desk both left and right foot have gone numb on occasion also. For the most part my stiffness in morning, the pain in left hip and lower back are chronic. The pain is a constant ache. Also the area where I have the bulging discs in upper back hurt also.

Answer
First, I would like to thank you for typing such a complete history, this makes it much easier.

Second, it sounds like you have relaly been through the mill.  The signs you have related are all very substantial, and it is hard to give you a straight answer without both talking directly to you and viewing your films.

However, I believe that your best bet at this point would be to see a doctor who is doing decompression therapy using one of the new devices that does this (IDD therapy, Decompression therapy, etc)  if you need more information, let me know.  This type of therapy attempts to relieve pressure from the disc (and thus, the nerve) and can sometimes regenerate the disc to some degree.  I have found it to be the least invasive, cost effective treatment for signs like you have related.

I sure hope this helps you.
