Question
I have been suffering with a stiff neck (left side) for 8 weeks afer about a month my Chiro took an xray and found spurs and Degenerating in the C3-4-5-6.  The pain is no longer in my sholders but only in my left side of the neck were turning and tilting to the left side is difficult and tight.  I have been told by others that with spurs and Degen I should not be seeing a chiro?  Any other suggestions and is it normal to ake this long to correct?  I hae recently began to see another Chiro who also uses the laser.
Is SPurs and Degenerating a sign of Spinal Stenosis?  My father late in life was diagnosed with it and I am concerned.
I am 50 very active, in reasonable good shape and play volleyball, golf, baseball.  Do I need to give these things up?

Answer
Spurs and degeneration are not necessarily associated with spurs.  They occur when there is a stress at the disc level, and your body responds by adding bone to make it stronger.  Correcting any mechanical abnormalities (subluxation), will help relieve the stresses, and help slow the process.  The low level laser is another excellent approach to helping you heal.  Supplementation and exercise should also be used, and if no change within 4-6 weeks, I would suggest seeing your family doctor to see if there should be some medical intervention.
