Question
QUESTION: hi,
7 days ago my back was feeling really stiff, when i did chin-ups it started to hurt. I did do foam rolling on the back muscle, but when i do standing bicep curls, the stiffness and pain goes away. On the first 4 days i had it, ALL of my bones and joints started cracking. the cracking has stopped apart from the elbows, which seam to be getting better. i'v rested my entire body and i have been eating well for the past 7 days, and on some days the back pain comes and goes.

what might i be doing wrong when i am lifting weights, or is this to do with my nutrition. And are there any excercices i can do while resting my body, without making it worse.

thanks for the help
Regards Jeff

ANSWER: Muscular tightness can and will affect the joints of the body.  You mention that you have been eating well since the injury.  How was your diet previously?  Poor nutrition can have a "toxic" effect on the body and manifest itself in many ways, ie. stiffness.  start with a good nutritional plan, and work back into the exercising slowly.  This should help you find some relief.

QUESTION: I do foam rolling and stretching for the back, to release muscle tension, but could it stilll be a problem? i don't really run on a diet plan. but i definitely get more than my daily requirement of calcium and carbs. Also, I have gained 15 kilos (within 1 and a half months)and have grown taller, if that info helps.

thanks for the help

Answer
You are on the right track with the stretching; I would also add in stretches over an exercise ball.  Start walking at a moderate pace daily, if possible.  If you continue with stiffness, you may want to check with your family physician to rule out any problems.
