Question
Dear Doctor,
Just did my MRI test last wk, found out that minor issue on my Lumbar5 as it appeared to hitting the nerves (back pain thus). Am certain this is due to sports injury, as do run a lot, and played games like football, badminton and tennis.

Question. Shld I get into pyhsical teraphy or chiropractic soon - is this effective? what are my options. have laid off all sports except tennis so far.
The pinched nerve is evident on the back
Also wondering what form of exercise shld i indulge into, in order to strengthen the abdominal and back muscles.

thank you !

Answer
Franklin,

What you have is common and treatable.   Go to the chiropractor or the PT.  If you have a disc problem, avoid exercises that force the lumbar spine into flexion.  This means that sit-ups or ab' crunches are out.  The chiropractor may be able to provide alleviation simply by delivering joint manipulation and showing you some key back exercises.  The PT may be helpful in monitoring an exercise program and stabilizing your core.   Sitting around is not what you want to be doing.
