Pain in the chest

Question
Hi,
I was playing rugby today and received a pretty huge hit when running straight at one of the bigger guys on the other team. He hit me hard in the middle of the chest and I was flung to the floor.Im worried I might have cracked my sternum, I thought it could be just bruised at first but its pretty agonising whenever I move, sort of a stabbing pain in my chest. When I breathe in deeply towards the end of the breath it hurts too. Never had any problems with my chest before and its very sore. Hope you can help and advise, if I need an x-ray etc.. Cheers.
Matt

Answer
Hello Matt,

You may want to see a Doctor of Chiropractic, they will be able to palpate the area and determine if x-rays are needed.  Often you can displace a rib/s which cause similar pain, if so the Chiropractor will be able to adjust (move back into place)the rib and provide some immediate relief.  Ice in the mean time to reduce swelling and pain.

Have a great day,
Dr. Brendon O'Brien D.C.
