Question
I have terrible pain in in the manubrium sternum area with movement, deep breathing, and pressing on this area. I am just now getting over a fibromyalia flareup, could this be related to this?

Answer
Sharon,

The issue of your sternum could in fact be related to your fibromyalgia. It may not be just in your sternum but in the soft tissues around your sternum such as the muscles tendons and ligaments. Hopefully you have not taken any traumatic blows to your sternum and if you have you will need to make sure you did not cause a hairline fracture. The tough part about this DDX is the fact that it will probably not be picked up by X ray or Cscan. Most doctors assume a hairline and treat it mostly by leaving it alone. This pain should start to decrease in a matter of days. If it does not then please seek care and report this to your medical healthcare provider. Also remember you may have traumatized your sternum with a coughing attack which many people do not identify as traumatic to the sternum.

At my office in Phoenix (Anthem) Arizona I specialize in the treatment of Fibromyalgia utilizing Brain Based Therapy (BBT) for more information on Brain Based Therapy please visit my website www.drqdc.com

There is a group of Chiropractors that study the involvement of the brain and the nervous system and how they related to each other and ultimately how they communicate with your body. This is really a breakthrough technology for Fibromyalgia. Again to learn more please visit www.drqdc.com My colleagues and I believe that Fibromyalgia is a brain and nervous system issue and that all the other symptoms you and other Fibro sufferers are secondary to the faults in the brain and nervous system. You can find some video on this subject at www.askdrjohnson.com who is my the developer of this technology.

If you have been suffering with this sternal pain longer than a few days it is imperative that you seek medical or chiropractic attention.

I hope this information has been helpful.
