Crepitis

Question
I am a 65 y/o male.  I have recently developed cracking and popping in my neck.  I have read information from several sites about this issue.  Several months ago I had a large Sebaceous cyst removed from the back of my neck (right in the center). The incision was left open in order to heal from inside out.  Could this have caused the crepitis due to an air pocket?

I have seen a chiropractor in the past for lower back pain - however, since I had a herniated disk several years ago, my chiropractor advised against having back adjustments.

Should I see him again and have him check my neck.  He is very thorough and always does x-rays before starting any kind of work.

Answer
Dear Bill,
Thank you for your question.  It is not possible to know why you have noises and popping in your neck from the information available, however, you should of course have your neck checked by a chiropractor with expertise in the cervical spine. You may wish to refer to the following page for a list of practitioners in Florida with particular expertise in the neck: http://www.upper-cervical.com/html/directory.html

Best Wishes,
Myron
