Question
Hi I am a 24 year old active male that has had some moderate to severe lower back pain over the past 2 years.  In 2010 I did yoga for  the firs time in college and really felt excruciating pain a few days later.  I ended up not being able to sleep, walk, sit or much of anything for that matter in a normal fashion.  After the PCP I went to just gave me muscle relaxers, the pain eventually subsided and I went on with my life.  About a year ago I was playing racquetball and the same type of injury occurred; a sharp pain in my lower back that immobilized me for about 2 weeks.  I went to a different doctor, same results, and in a few weeks the pain subsided.  Last month I was playing basketball, and the exact same pull occurred and I was in the same situation as the previous two times.  I live in Philadelphia now and saw a doctor who gave me muscle relaxers once again, but a very specific set of back stretches that I have now been doing on a daily basis and they do seem to help.  I went to a chiropractor yesterday to see if there was some form of misalignment or readjustment necessary and he did a preliminary check up, saw my posture, did some stretches, and believes that I have a rotated sacrum.  This was my first chiropractic session so I had no idea what to expect.  Could you give me some insight, and maybe a very good chiropractor to see, I did not feel that the one I went to was the best fit for me.

Thanks,
Mike

Answer
Hi mike,
Smart to stop taking muscle relaxers as that only masks your symptoms. Chiropractors will get to the root cause and correct that. It's very likely that you misaligned something In your spine doing yoga. I used to have a colleague in Philadelphia (dr. Matt Marcus)
I would go online and read reviews of doctors to see who is highly rated. Maybe someone with a sports
And Fitness background would be a Good fit For you. If you emailed me a list of names I could possibly recognize a few more docs. If you don't feel right with him then see someone else. You are on the right track and
I suggest seeing a chiropractor a few times a year (without pain) just as you
See a dentist without pain for cleanings.
Good Luck!
