My brother in law was hit by a caR A COUPLE OF MONTHS AGO.  HE WAS GIVEN AN EPIDURAL ON MONDAY.  TUESDAY WE HAD TO RUSH HIM TO THE HOSPITAL BECAUSE HE LOST CONTROL OF HIS EXTREMITIES AND HIS FACE LOOKED LIKE SOMEONE WHO WAS EXPERIENCING A CVA.  THYE BEST WAY FOR ME TO DESCRIBE IT IS SIMILAR TO SOMEONE WHO TAKES DILANTON WITHOUT PHENOBARBITOL.  HE WAS GIVEN ADAVAN SEEMED STOP THE INCIDENT. HE WAS SENT HOME HE EXPERIENCED SPASM ALL NIGHT LONG WHICH BECAME INCREASINGLY WORSE.  212 HRS LATER WE TOOK HIM BACK TO THE HOSPITAL AND HE WAS UNABLE TO CONTROL HIS BODY FOR THREE DAYS.  HE WAS TAKING  PAXIL, CLONAPIN, BEFORE THE ACCIDENT FLEXORAL, ULTRUM, AND PERCOCET WERE PRESCRIBED FOR PAIN MANAGEMENT.  THE DR'S AT THE ER SAID IT MAY BE A RESULT FROM HALDOL  TAKEN YEARS AGO WHICH i DON'T BELIEVE FOR A MINUTE.  WHAT DO THINK MAY HAVE CAUSED THIS

Thanks for Writing!

I am sorry to hear of your brother-in-laws injuries.

Why was he given the epidural?

I would suggest you have the records of the epidural injection reviewed by another doctor to determine if that procedure was done properly.

I assume he was not having these seizures in the 2 months time period immediately after the accident until he had the epidural. Is this correct?

As to the present. Apparently, the drug approach has met its match. I am sure the Haldol was part of the drug toxin load which contributed to his present state, the Paxil also. The body will reach a limit at which it cannot handle any more toxins.

I am assuming he has had all of the xrays and MRI done. Did that show any broken bones or hematomas on the brain or spinal cord?

I really cannot venture a guess on this until I get more information, in the form of answers to the above questions. Please let me know more information and I will take another look at it.

thank you for a quick response.
He has been diagnosed with five herniated discs.  this is why he was given the epidural,

He was given several cat scan, mri's with contrast, xray's and eeg of the brain which show no broken bones, abnormalities  or hematomas.  blood work showed no infections or abnormalities.

he was released from the hospital yesterday and has been experiencing intermitant spasm mostly in his face and neck.  My sister said she gave him his paxil this morning and 45 minutes later he started to experience stronger spasm and corea.

Ok!

Well, this is a tough one. If the Paxil dosage and the spasms happened that close together, I would say my theory on the drug toxin overload has gained some support. I would suggest checking out the liver.

Liver blood tests do not always show an overloaded liver. It is a good idea to consult an alternative health and wellnes pacticioner. Or at least take a look at it from an alternative view, the drug approach has been given a through trial and things are not looking to good.

If you want a referral in your area, please let me know.
