Question
Dr. Egbogah

On Dec. 24, 2008 (almost 8 weeks ago) I fell on the ice and landed on my rear end.

I had an MRI which showed:
There is an acute approximately 50% compression fracture deformity of the L1 vertebral body. The remainder of the lumbar vertebra demonstrates normal height.
At the L5-S1 level, there is a diffuse disc bulge effacing the anterior aspect of the thecal sac. The visualized spinal cord and conus are normal in configuration and signal intensity.

The pain was severe and got a little better every day until about two weeks ago. Since this time it seems I have not improved any. I still have pronounced pain on my sides which seem to follow the top of my pelvis.

I was told by the physical therapist I am seeing that my pelvis is twisted as well.

Any thoughts or insights would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You In Advance,
Tom

Answer
Hi Tom,

I am not quite sure what you are asking. Would you like information on recommended treatment for your injuries or would you like me to explain your MRI findings?

Compression fractures usually take 8-10 weeks to heal but in some cases it may take months to years to completely heal. Some patients also experience chronic pain as a result of a compression fracture which is why early treatment is necessary.

I hope this helps!
