Question
I have been having neck pain and went to my chriopractor with a clear MRI.
I had injections from a pain specialist to help with the adjustments and it seemed to help.
My last adjustment, I heard one single pop and it hurt.....a half hour later I have a noticeable bulge on the back of my neck when I bend my head back and my muscles are in a  huge spasm.  I iced it and put on heat as dr. said to do, but today it's worse.  lots of pain.
I'm scared that the adjustment hurt a disk and it's bulging out now........you can push it in with your fingers.  Could this be????  Is there anything else it could be that's less serious??

Answer
Cathy;

Let me put to rest the idea that your discs can pop out of your neck.. they cannot be palpated (felt) with your fingers at all.

It does sound like you have a serious muscle spasm, though!!  Spasm is the one time I recommend heat for anything.   Remember, your DC is making structural changes in your body, and sometimes the body isn't too happy about that, and will spasm to stabilize the system.

I'd be lying if I said your condition hasn't happened to my patients, as well.  Go back and see your DC and let him / her evaluate you again.  I'd like to hear back from you if it goes on for more than 3 days.
