Question
My lower back has bothered me for a few months now. Can you please tell me what would be the best type of therapy to help it heal? I haven't hurt it or anything. Not sure if maybe I need a new mattress or what. Lifting my leg to put on my socks is really painful. Thanks

Answer
Hi Eddie,

Sorry to hear about the lower back pain.  It could definitely be your mattress, especially if the discomfort is most intense in the morning. So if your mattress is a bit old, or has a big depression in it, then it will be money well spent to get a new one.

But there are probably a few other factors involved as well. Since you told me it hurts when you go to put your socks on, I surmise that you probably have really tight muscles in your hips that are locking down your tailbone and causing your low back to hurt when you need to lift your leg.

THE GOOD NEWS is that I do believe you can probably fix your back yourself.  I show you exactly how to fix your lower back pain at my totally free website:
http://www.do-it-yourself-joint-pain-relief.com/

On the homepage I explain in great detail why and how you can probably fix yourself.  Briefly, if you think of all the muscles in your body like the rigging (ropes) on a big old-fashioned sailboat you can see that if some of the big strong pieces of rigging (muscles in your hips) got really tight they could cause other pieces of rigging (muscles in your back) to be negatively affected.

Bones only go where muscles pull or hold them, so if you haven't actually ripped or torn anything, then there is about a 99% chance that you're just inappropriately tight in some of your bigger muscle groups, which is causing you pain in your lower back.

I would recommend that you go to the Lower Back Pain Relief page:
http://www.do-it-yourself-joint-pain-relief.com/lower-back-pain-relief.html
and just follow along with the videos.  You should do them all, but Video 3 is really going to focus on the areas that make it hurt when you put your socks on, so make sure and  really do those techniques well.
Also, on the Site Map page where I list every page on the website:
http://www.do-it-yourself-joint-pain-relief.com/joint-pain-relief-site-map.html
if you scroll down the the lower back pain section you'll see a link to the
Tennis Ball Tune-up page:
http://www.do-it-yourself-joint-pain-relief.com/lower-back-pain-remedy-tennis-ba
this page will show you how to release the primary muscles causing your pain by using a tennis ball.  If when working out or just in your life you do a lot of squatting type motions then you'll want to do the Tennis Ball Tune-Up on a regular basis.

Remember, as we get older we get tighter more easily.  If you know how to release the inappropriate tension in your muscles you can have a functional body for a long time to come.

I do genuinely believe that you can fix yourself if you're willing to follow along with the videos.

I hope this helps.

Best,

Gary Crowley
