This appears to be a bit peripheral to your specialty, but --

For several months, I have had pain in both hips, diagnosed as ischial bursitis.  Various analgesics offer minimal and temporary relief, but the problem persists.  Physical therapy seemed to be of little benefit.  Is there another approach you might suggest for more permanent relief?  For bursitis, is there any benefit offered by chiropractic treatment?
Answer -
Dear Frank,   Chiropractors can make adjustments that may or may not help...  This would be your choice as to whether or not to try a chiropractor....  If it were me I would see an Orthopedic doctor....  This type of bursitis often needs more MEDICAL help than a chiropractor can give...  For instance, the brusa fluid may have to be aspirated or you may need cortisone injections which a chiropractor can NOT do....

Since I do not know what tests you had inorder for a diagnosis of ischial bursitis and since I do not know what type of doctor made this diagnosis, all I can suggest that you see an Orthopedic doctor, make this your second opinion visit and make sure you have the proper diagnosis and the proper treatment..

here is a web site that might help you.

Thank YOU, Karen.  Your insight was most instructive, also the web site.  If it is of any help, I am 71, male, otherwise in excellent health and very active.

I first consulted an orthopedist, who ordered blood tests, X-ray, CT scans, MRI, physical therapy, then administered cortisone injections, both hips.  Tests excluded other possibilities, helped confirm diagnosis.  Cortisone was effective but only for a few days.  Therapy over several weeks was comforting but not relieving.  Various analgesics -- acetaminophen, ibuprofin, tramadol, etc. -- provide only temporary masking.  I'm not a fan of chiropractics, but at this point I'm willing to try anything that has even a minimal probability of providing relief.

This elaboration may not give you cause for reply, but if it triggers further thought, I'll be glad to hear from you.

Thanks again for original reply.  Most considerate!  My direct email, if you prefer, is <[email protected]>.

Answer
Dear Frank,   I like you, at times, feel like giving anything a try and since most of the common treatments have seemed to fail you, then what the heck, give the chiropractor a try and then if it does not work, you can at least say you tried everything.....

It may also be that you may have to look into whether or not surgery can be done to help illiminate the pain or get a second opinion etc.

Thank you,   karen
