Arthritis, inflamation and alcohol

Question
Has there ever been an established link between arthritis, inflamation and if drinking alcoholic beverages over many decades? Can the consumption of alcohol exacerbate the arthritic condition?  In my family it appears to be so after looking at our parents and their siblings.

Answer
Hi Jeff,

There is no direct correlation but plenty of indirect associations with alcohol consumption. This is due to poor absorption and chronic liver inflammation inhibiting nutritional repair of damaged connective tissue. Arthritis is just one of several detrimental effects of that can be loosely linked to alcoholism. Certain steps can be taken to minimize these effects such as vitamin and nutritional supplementation. This should include glucosamine sulfate with MSM along with a good multivitamin.
