Question
I went to a Rheumatologist last week and had bunch of blood tests done. I was afraid I might have Ra or Lupus.
They called and blood test came back fine.  I went today and pick up copy for my records. Reading them was alarming

Ra Factor- Positive
ESR- H  24
Rheumatoid factor  6 in range
ana screen - negative

Does this sound like I have RA.

Answer
Hello,
There are many things that make up "having RA". These are lab tests that form part of an assessment. The rest is the history, physical examination and predisposition for having RA. I am just assuming that your doctor sent you for these lab tests for some complaint or another you may have had. If so, I am also assuming that your doctor may have told you the meaning of these test results, having examined you for any complaints.  That doctor would be in the best position to tell you if you have RA. I understand how you would be concerned with a + RA factor and the erythrocyte sedimentation rate numbers, but these may possibly be influenced by other things in your history, I don't know.  An assessment is made up of many things put together, which again, the doctor ordering these tests will probably be able to put together for you.  Thanks for your question.
