Question
I've recently found out I have winging of the scapula.  My doctor told me to put heat twice a day and exercise to build up the muscle. He said if it doesn't improve, I MUST see an orthopedic dr.  I don't know how it happened.
My question is...is it normal to have a very strong sensation of heartbeat under my left arm?
It is especially disturbing when I try to sleep.
WHat could that be?

Answer
Rebecca,

Heat and strengthening exercises are not going to change your winging scapula. This is usually caused by either a muscle imbalance or a nerve injury. If it is a muscle imbalance/motor learning problem you will need to see a PT who can help you change your pattern of motion and help you correct the muscle imbalances. If it is a nerve injury it will just take time.

The strong sensation of a heart beat under your arm is a question you should talk with your MD about.
