Answer
Hi Susan

This clarifies things a bit more for me.  Six months out is still a relatively short time and we all heal differently.  Are you feeling stable on the hip?  My feeling is, that if you still are not up to par and feeling unstable, you could be tensing muscles as you walk which will, at the end of the day, cause you pain.

I feel this way because in your second paragraph you implied that you might still be getting used to walking on a THR so I inferred that you might still feel unstable.  Why not take a cane with you and use it as you feel tired?  That might help.

When the hip was put in, if the surgeon went through your hip, not the front of your body, he cut a large muscle group and that takes time to heal and the knee muscles being involved in your pain is not a stretch of the imagination.  So I am not surprised you feel pain and instability.

Check your leg length, to see if your legs are the same length.  If they are not ask about getting a shoe lift, as that might help the gait and lessen the pain.  Also ask your doctor some additional sessions of physical therapy to have you feel more stable.

Best of luck to you and I hope I addressed your concerns.

Sharon
