Question
Hi Doctor,

I have got back pain due to weight lifting in gym, I had muscle relaxation tabs for 3 weeks but once the medicine stops the pain starts again, I have undergone MRI L/S Spine today and remarks in MRI are :-

L4/L5 disc reveals diffuse posterior bulge with right lateral protrusion identing right budding nerve root.

I have pain in lower right bottom while turning left and bending down and back.

I have been to Spine Specialist and watching the MRI Film he said this is slipped disk at a very mild/ Initial level and he said taking rest for 2 weeks with medicines will improve your condition. Doc said once condition will be better he will start with additional Calcium tabs and some excercises.

He has prescrbed me tabs with chemicals :-
Medrol 16mbg (methylprednisolone)
Rivotril 0.5mg (Clonazepam )

Kindly Suggest your opinion on this. Thanks in advance.

Answer
Hello Ankur,
Thanks for taking time to write to me. I'm sorry to hear about your injury and pain.
Please be very careful not to aggravate your condition with any activities which may place a compressile force upon your spine. Avoid any overhead weight lifting at this time until you have improved. I suggest that you consider to visit my site to understand some treatment options. Also I am nit quite sure why the doctor is recommending you take  calcium tabs?

When you sleep try to prop up your knees with a pillow when on your back, and if on your side place a pillow between your knees.
Can you take a moment out to rate my answer and consider to nominate me as expert of the month.

Let me know how you make out,
Dr. Ron Nusbaum
