Ruptured Disc

Question
Hey Jerry,
My friend's cousin ruptured a disc in his back durin a concert.  I have no clue what exactly this means, web sites I've found don't help, and I'm scared for him.  All I've learned from my friend's mom is that he is in a lot of pain, and the doctors don't give out much info.  Do you know about the short and long term effects of this?  And what exactly is a ruptured disc?  I've heard more than one bogus-sounding definition of it.  Is it likely he will make a complete recovery?  Any info on this at all would be greatly apprieciated.

Thanks, Sarah

Answer
Sarah,
I've searched all over looking for the best description of a ruptured disk for you and came up with the following 2 web sites.  These seem to cover the info needed to understand what a rupturded disc entails.

http://speedy.coconet.com/neurosurgeon/spine/ruptured.html
http://medhlp.netusa.net/glossary/new/GLS_3733.HTM

Good luck
