Question
Hi,
i have been suffering from lower back pain continuously for a few yrs and 1 week ago decided to try out a chiropractor for the first time. The doctor took Xrays and I have had 3 treatments so far which have all been the same; first a machine to relax muscles on my lower back is placed for 5min (to relax the muscle i think) then i lay on each side while the Dr uses my leg and arm to pull until my back cracks once on each side.
Since this treatment has started i can no longer walk and am very worried about what is happening to me. i have another appointment tomorrow morning and just so concerned about going can you please give me some more advice?
     Regards Terry.

Answer
Terry,

Tell the doctor this and be sure that you get RE-EXAMINED BEFORE any further treatment is attempted.  Your re-exam should be to determine why you cannot walk (I'm assuming it's because of pain).   It simply can be from muscle soreness due to treatment.  It also can be neurological, e.g. from compressed nerves or spinal cord.  Be sure to ask your doctor to check this out.  I if there is nothing neurological going on, and it is simply sore muscles, then ask your doctor to do soft tissue therapy, e.g. massage, active myofascial release, or Graston Technique (to name a few).  Heat can be soothing prior to lower back joint manipulation as well as after the manipulation.  I'd suggest giving up the electric stimulation prior to joint manipulation.

'Hope this helps.
