HAND/ARM PAIN AND NUMBNESS

Question
I have had this for some time and attributed it to carpal tunnel syndrome.  It has gotten bad in the last couple months so I went to see an orthopedic...my carpal tunnel studies (EMG) and MRI came back fine.  Since the EMG (needles and shocking) my arms and hands hurt twice as bad and I am taking about 4 advil every 4 hours and it really isn't working.  They are sending me to a neurologist.  I am so frustrated...it is hard to work in non-stop pain and dull aches and numbness.  What is your opinion?

Answer
It is hard to diagnose over the internet, but I will do my best.  Do you have a repetitive motion type job, or a job in which you use your hands?  Overuse can lead to these symptoms, but they are not all Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.  Depending what and where you feel them, they can have a variety of different names, all bunched under the heading of repetitive stress disorder.  Misalignment, anywhere from the neck to the fingers, can bring on these symptoms, as well as tightness in the underlying tissues.  A good chiropractor should be able to evaluate you and treat you if it is a mechanical problem, and not an underlying pathology.
