Cervical Curve

Question
I went to the chiropractor the other week because he gave my girlfriend a free chiropractic checkup coupon.  Since I play a lot of golf (6-8 months of the year), I figured I would take advantage of the free examination to see what state my spine is in.
I did not decide to take the examination because I feel pain of any kind, simply curiosity.

The x-ray's came back and my doctor went over them with me.  He showed me that my neck is straight rather than curved.  He then offered me 80 adjustment sessions, with 25 traction sessions right off the hop.  It's funny because this is the same offer he gives to every patient.

Should I look into getting another chiropractic doctors opinion?  My MD also told me that his radiologists buddies say that x-rays can be deceiving when looking for proper curvature of the spine because if the patient is standing in a weird position, it may look like he has/or doesn't have curvature in certain parts of the spine.

Another issue I have with this is Dr's approach is that he wants me to shell out $2500 on care that I didn't even think I needed because I don't feel any discomfort/pain in my back or neck.

I did have one adjustment done on my first visit.  I went home after and worked out my chest and back.  Now I have had a little bit of pain in my lower back since? What gives?  Was it the exercise (I have never done weight training on my back muscles).  Or did he crack my back and cause the pain himself?

Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

Answer
Hey Tom,

Yeah, sounds like a scam.  There never is a exact number of treatments to cure anything!
Some people do have a alordotic curve of the cervical spine (loss of normal curve) which can be genetic, accidents, muscle spasm, etc.  Chiropractic adjustments can help with daily exercise to restore curvature.  One of the most beneficial treatment tools is a pillow with a cervical curve that supports the spine (You will want to slowly break it in, hour or two per night the first week).  You may have coincidental pain with working out and the adjustment.
You may want to have another exam by a different Doctor of Chiropractic.

Have a great day,
Dr. Brendon O'Brien D.C.
