Question
the ring finger on my left hand started to bruise and it feels a little tight i have type 2 diabetes i was wondering if it could be a pinched nerve or diabetes related

Answer
Dear Cathy,

There are many reasons why a finger might bruise and swell.  If you are on medications that cause blood thinning, for example, you could easily suffer from unexplained bruising. Some of these medications are aspirin, ibuprofen and other NSAIDS (non steroidal anti inflammation drugs), steroids (such as asthma inhalers), etc.  Check your medication list.

I doubt that the bruising is a "pinched nerve" type of problem.  Unexplained bruising does occur in diabetes... so this could be the cause.

It may also be due to deficiency of vitamin C, vitamin B12, folic acid and vitamin K.

Unexplained or increased bruising can be caused by liver diseases, kidney diseases, and blood disorders such as hemophilia or leukemia.

It is also possible that you gripped something extra hard, or that you simply don't remember striking the hand on another object.

Cathy, I know that this is a lot of information, but I hope that it gives you some ideas.
