Question
Hi, im looking for some information about the surgery when correcting a cerebal palsy patients kyphoscoliosis. I understand that the surgery involves putting rods through the spine, would this be correct? Many thanks sophie

Answer
The procedure involves the use of Harrington rods placed alongside the spine to help correct the curvature.  These rods are attached to the bony vertebra and do not touch the spinal cord itself.  The process of correction is done by fusing some of the bones together with the rods holding them in proper alignment.  It works well.

I thank you for the question, Sophie.  I hope that my answer was helpful.
