Question
My husband has the worst pain that I have ever seen. He can not sit, stand, lay,let alone walk. It pains me to see him and I can't do anything to help. I read an article about  "Stem Cells," can you tell me if you know of anyone here in the United States that might be doing this procedure.

Answer
Stem cells is not actually a procedure.  They are the tiny cells in our bodies that can become virtually any particular type of body cell.  The procedure in spinal cord research has been the injection of the stem cells around the injured area in an attempt to regenerate the nerve tissue.

There are many facilities around the United States that are doing stem cell research.  I am not certain which ones, if any, are using human subjects at this time.

The National Institutes of Health, the Miami Project, and the Christopher Reeve Foundation would be good starting points to find out which universities and research groups may be undertaking any human trials.

Thank you for your question, Lorraine.  I hope that my answer was helpful.
