Question
Hello. I am sorry if this doesn't fall entirely under your category. Recently I have hurt my right cheekbone, I think it maybe be fractured, but I have not gone to xray this, as I am out of the country and a little nervous about cost. It has not bothered me other then being slightly swollen and sore. I do not know if this has to do with my headache. But recently I have gotten a headache that sits on the back of the top left of my head, and no matter the water I drink, or the asprin I take. It will not go away. Normally I would weather it out, but when i was younger I got really sick, and one of the big signs were massive headaches. It makes me nervous. I am going to make an appointment with my doctor, but I am worried that I will not be able to meet him before christmas week, so what should I do about the pain before then? Or should I be a bit more concerned and really work on getting seen. (ps, also have been sick lost voice, slight fever) I hope you can help.

Answer
Marley,
I think you should seek medical attention at once. If your jaw bone is fractured or even cracked it could heal poorly or unevenly and cause you lots of problems in the future. The fact that it is swollen, even slightly, actually is a sign that it could be broken. I do think the headache you are experiencing is related to this injury especially considering where the headache is located. Please try to get good, reliable medical attention ASAP for your health's sake. To fail to do so could cause multiple problems in the future. In the meantime try taking ibuprofen (Motrin) up to 4 tablets ( a total of 800 mg) at a time, every 6 hours. That sounds like a lot, but 800 mg is a prescription dose. It will probably help the pain more than anything else until you see a doctor.  Also, I hope you have applied ice. I do wish you well, and hope you will seek help right away.
