Question
I am doing a school project on vaccines.  I hope you dont mind me asking for your opinion on them.

Do you feel that the flu vaccine is an important vaccine to recieve?

What have you heard about vaccines?

What age do you feel a first vaccine should be given at?

Why do you think there are flu vaccine shortages when they are aware of the number of people who want to recieve the vaccine?

DO you feel that everyone should be getting vaccinated for whooping caugh?

I hope you can answer these even though its not listed in your expertise.  It is just opinion of how you feel about vaccines.  I look forward to hearing your answers if you are willing to answer them.  Thank you so much!

Kerri

Answer
Hello Kerri,

I have done some limited reseach on the subject.  What I found to be in the scientific journals and studies is:  the influenza strains will reproduce faster than a vaccine can be made, its only 30% effective when given, it may lower your immune system for a short time, and its not for everyone.  The studies were primarily done on animals but the researchers believe it can replicate 2-3x faster in humans.  This is only what I have read, so I suggest reading some medical journals and reports on vaccines, they are also a great resource for decreasing and stopping the spread of disease.

Good Luck,

Dr. Brendon O'Brien D.C.
