back pain after delivery of my baby

Question
Hi, I am looking for a little help/direction in regards to choosing a chiropractor.  I delivered my second child 3 weeks ago and since his birth have experienced lower left back pain (not constant but rather very bothersome in certain positions).  I plan on seeking help from a chiropractor but have been told there are many "types" and specialties.  I am looking for some advice in regards to questions I should ask when calling the clinic to make an appointment (since I have a list of thousands that my insurance will cover) I have already talked with my OBGYN to make sure that seeking treatment would not be contraindicated.  Thank you for your time!

Answer
Dear Leah,

Chiropractors traditionally have treated women pre and post partum with success.  There is no valid specialty degree that chiropractors hold that makes them specialists in treating post-partum women.  In my opinion, you would do best to seek a DC that has certifications in soft tissue methods (such as Graston Technique), and also experience doing more than just joint manipulation.  The DC should possess a table that allows your belly to drop down a little.  Any DC that insists on x-rays without a thorough physical examination should be avoided.  If you need more information, please don't hesitate to email me.
