Middle back pain after sleeping

Question
To make a long story short, we replaced our bed with a firm mattress. Not long afterwards I started experiencing middle back pain across the entire back that would at times wake me up during the night. The pain is like a dull lingering ache. After getting out of bed, the pain would leave within the hour. I have tried four bed types including the Tempurpedic. Nothing seems to help except the couch. Sleeping on the couch will not aggravate the pain. I am active in the gym and no pain is associated when I am at the gym. Thanks for your help.

Answer
Hi Alan,

It took me the better part of 2 decades to find a mattress I could sleep comfortably on. Try sleeping on the floor for 2 days on a sleeping bag on carpeting. This will replicate the firm spectrum of mattresses, if you wake up in pain, you are thee small minority that requires a soft unsupportive mattress to be comfortable. A water bed would probably suit you well. Not all mattresses feel the same to all people, everyone is different.

Try that.

Good Luck!
