Question
Dr. Leatherman,
I am a  49 y/o male in top physical condition. I am a muscular weight lifter with very low body fat. 4 weeks ago I awoke with severe pain and spasms  in my mid upper back (TI to c5 region0. It has not abated despite numerous chiropractic visits.I have had  an MRI and I appear to have mild bulging disks from c5 to c8 (in each disk). The MRI doesn't show TI but it is  sore to touch. I have partial paralysis in my right Pectoral and tricep and they are atrophying rapidly. Frankly I am frightened. An internet search contains frightening anecdotal stories from bloggers but no promising prognosis on any site. Any thoughts? Any hope?

Answer
Dear David,

Short and quick answer...I would suggest that you seek out the care of a local chiropractor who has an intervertebral disk decompression machine in the office.  When you look for this online/phone book/advertisements etc...you need to make sure that the doctor has the capability to treat the neck with this device, not just the low back.

The technique was specifically designed to rehydrate disc tissue while reducing the pressure and irritation on the disc.  Most patients do really well with the protocols and recover fully.  Make sure that you schedule a consultation with the doctor first before picking one to be completely informed on the treatment.

Respectfully,
Dr. Shawn Leatherman
