Question
about 2 weeks ago,In the middle of moving in my new place and I needed to take the dresser drawers upstairs well rather than going up and down I put the drawers on top of a high shelf that's next to the stairs. I was so tired from moving I decided to take a break and sat next to the shelf and my 3yr old knocks the oak drawer off and it falls right on top of my head!I started bleeding from a cut it caused about an an inch and a half long. I didn't go to the hospital for certain reasons but other than a little soreness I felt OK, until a few days ago I started feeling this pressure, sort of a numbness in the mid of my spine. It doesn't hurt it kinda feels like something may be pushing against my back. Could it be from the head injury? should I be worried?

Answer
Dear Marie,

Sorry about your head injury, but I doubt that the head injury is causing the mid back pressure.  Internal injury to the head and brain would result in dizziness, nausea, vomiting, loss of memory, vision or hearing changes, loss of strength or sensation in one or more of the limbs, usually down one side of the body, drooping muscles in the face, excruciating headaches, etc.

That being said, Marie, it is possible that the impact on the head caused some trauma to the neck or to the mid back region. You should see a doctor to make sure that you have no signs of nerve/brain damage, just to make sure. You should also be evaluated for joint and spine injury through a good chiropractor.

I am also concerned about the potential for infection in the laceration of your head. Head wounds within the hair line are often more easily infected, and since you did not have it stitched shut, your risk of infection is increased. Make sure it is cleaned and that it is healing.

I hope that this helps you, and I am sorry about your injury!
