Question
My husband had a cervical fusion done on his neck due to an assault on July 5, ever since this surgery he has had horrible hand pain where he is on pain killers and the pain actually wakes him up at night.  Is this normal

Answer
Hi Susan,

I hate to say it but it is not normal but typical. He is very lucky that there isn't more severe post-op complications.
The pain in his hand is too general of a description for me to comment further; try to find out what specific fingers hurt, or are weak or numb. I also need to know if the pain travels down his arm.

I will be able to help you pinpoint the problem if I have this information.

Thank you,
