Causes of Knee Pain

Back of knee pain has many different causes. Some of the main causes of knee pain include strains and pulls of the muscles of the knee. This can cause pain in various areas of the knee such as the back of your knee. These strains and pulls can take a long time to heal. Other causes of knee pain include arthritis and issues with tendonitis where the tendons of the knee become inflamed. A fracture of a bone in the knee can cause pain tor radiate throughout the knee and cause back of knee pain as a symptom. Playing sports can also injure the knee due to the stress and long-term strain placed on the knee due to constant movements through the sustained activity. Knee surgery is one of the common surgeries performed on athletes. Other causes of back of the knee pain include general age and degeneration of the knee.

Caring for Knee Pain

Knee pain needs to be looked after if it occurs as a mild injury may get worse of the pain isn't addressed in the right way. Strains and pulls can be iced down at home or pain medication can be taken. These injuries typically take a couple of weeks to heal properly. With long-term back of the knee pain braces or other orthotic devices may be used to keep the knee from moving too much which allows the knee to heal well and provides more support for the patient. Heat rubs can be applied to mild knee injuries which can provide some relief.

In back of the knee pain gets worse or doesn't seem to go away after a short period of rest then a doctor may be required. If the knee pain is severe then a doctor should be consulted st once so the cause of the pain can be located and addressed. Some people with chronic knee pain may need long-term therapy to heal the knee and increase the strength of the knee. Those with arthritis may receive sustained therapy from specialists so the patient can gain more mobility. A doctor is also able to prescribe more advanced pain medication to deal with severe back of knee pain. These medications help you relax and reduce issues of inflammation. A doctor can determine if the knee need additional therapy or if surgery may be required to provide the patient relief from their knee pain.

Address Knee Pain Right Away

If you have any type of back of the knee pain make sure you address the pain right away and don't try to work through the pain. While most knee pain will go away on its own you must consult a doctor if the pain is constant or severe as you may have additional problems with your knee that needs special medical care.
