Question
I had a car accident more then 10 years ago.  Knocked off my feet from a standing position back onto the pavement - I was unaware of and did not get any chiropractic care at that time.

I have had lower back issues of course. Fast forward years and my lower back aside, my neck started this loud popping when I would turn my head one way or the other.... no paid buy loud.  A few months latter neck pain and some burning down into one side of my shoulder.

I developed some non-diabetic numbness in the bottoms of my feet about 8 or 9 years ago which has slowly gotten worse.  No pain at all just numbness.  Now years later and about a year out of my neck problem my hands are going numb and over all I'm having weakness and coordination problems.  Still No pain, no blood sugar issue, no otherwise signs of MS that Im aware of.

I start back on fill blown heath insurance in just days with kaiser (they now have a Chiropractic benefit)

1st -  Does what I have described sound like a possible spinal issue?
2nd - What suggestions if any, would you give me in conversation with my Dr. regarding this?

Thanks

Clayton

Answer
Clayton,

Thank you for your question. Interesting symptoms almost sounds like charcot-marie-tooth syndrome. Which is what they call MS of the hands and feet. What it boils down to in many cases is a blood supply problem. If blood has trouble getting in or out of the brain it can cause problems and damage to structures inside. Like in your case numbness in hands and feet. You also mentioned some interesting clues along the way like back pain at first then neck pain, then burning pain into the shoulder.

A misalignment in the upper neck will cause the spine below to compensate which is the most commonly overlooked cause of neck, shoulder, back back pain etc. This same misalignment + time can cause permanent damage to the spine and it's structures so things like burning pain and numbness will start to show up.

Regarding speaking with your Dr. (I assume MD) they have zero training and knowledge regarding chiropractic and especially Upper Cervical Chiropractic. It would be like asking your car mechanic for his opinion on how to do heart surgery.

I would recommend you get checked by an Upper Cervical Chiropractor that specializes in the neck only, to see if you have a problem that can be helped.

I hope this helps, thank you for your question,

Kind regards,
