Question
QUESTION: Hi!

I am feeling sort of weakness in my legs. It's very difficult for me to stand on one leg and even while normal standing i feel the urge to change the position of my legs to maintain balance. Such situation gives me unpleasant feeling while standing in public.

By the way, i am 24 years old guy and i do jogging for 20-30 minutes every second day. After jogging i feel better in maintaining balance but for a very short time.

I hope you got my point.

Kindly help!

Thanks.

ANSWER: Philips,
What you are describing to me sounds very much like the effects from Upper Cervical Spine Subluxation.  Basically, the top two bones in your neck - Atlas and Axis get misaligned from birth, falls, injuries, concussion, car accident, sports injuries, fights, trauma...
This causes the head to sit improperly and unbalanced over your spine and causes a difference in muscle tone (ligaments and tendons are affected too)from one side of your body compared to the other side across your spine.  The muscles on one side pull tighter than the other side and the hip gets pulled up on that side compared to the other.
One leg appears to be longer than the other because of this and you will distribute your weight unevenly onto one side over the other.  This causes premature degeneration and added load on the one leg.
As a runner, you may be putting 10, 20, or 30+ lbs of weight on one leg more than the other while running every other day.  Those thousands of pounding steps are actually contributing to more trouble for you like back, hip, knee, ankle, foot problems as well as others.
The only person with the proper training to help locate and correct this problem is The Upper Cervical Specific Doctor. As a fundamental test in our office we do "Leg Checks" on every visit and we also check for proper weight distribution between the legs as well.
This care makes so much sense for all children and adults but I believe it is so important to runners that you all should get checked for this common problem before you even worry about buying good running sneakers.
Example, over the last week or two, we had a Hockey Player in our office that was putting 30 lbs more on his right leg than his left (his total body weight being 180-190lbs I believe).  Immediately after his first Upper Cervical Adjustment he went to 18 lbs heavier on his right side, this is within an hour.  His next visit was 2 days later for a post-examination and he was 1/2 lb heavier on his right.  So basically within 2 days he went from 30 lbs off to a half of a pound difference, WOW!  Do you think that might make a difference to him, when his livelihood is playing hockey and skating is the most important part of his job?

QUESTION: Hi Dr. Arnone!

Thanks a lot for your detailed and cooperative response.

Well, i am based in UK. Can you recommend me some supplements or any other treatment options? What sort of exercises i need to do besides running etc?

Regards,
Fahim

Answer
Fahim,

I am a specialist and basically what I specialize in is helping to locate and correct the cause of ill health conditions.  Anything short of that is merely palliative and anybody can give you information about that.
Statistically speaking, this is what you need in order to get well properly, if it weren't the answer in your particular case, then we would have to look into some other alternative.
If you are not interested in this type of care, then I would highly suggest going to see a chiropractor in your area as the next best thing.
This is likely a chiropracTIC problem so that is where you should be concentrating on going.

PS.  For example, we have a 60 yr old lady that is complaining of weakness in both legs, but mostly her left leg.  She has now been under my care in St Louis for 2 weeks now and she is noticing a slow yet steady improvement in regaining the strength in her legs.  Every visit now for the past week or so she has reported daily activities and exercise that she was unable to complete prior to adjustment.
