Question
I am a medical transcriptionist and my chiropractor is saying what sounds like Ely test (?) and a Bacter (?) sitting test.  I cannot find either name anywhere.  Is Kemp's test or Kempf's test correct?  Please advise.

Answer
Dear Amy,

Thank you for your question.

Medical testing is not uncommon in one of the branches of chiropractic, that of therapeutic mixing chiropractic.  While this branch is not my chosen area of expertise, I do have familiarity with terminology and still may be able to help you.

Without the opportunity to hear them for myself, it may be that the following are what you are hearing on your tape:

Ely = Ely's
Bacter = Von Bechterew
Kemp's = Kemp's

As a transcriber, it may be much better for you to simply contact your client chiropractor and find out what he/she was trying to say.

Sincerely,
James W. Healey, D.C.
